Our Story

In the year 2000, after much of the core of Women on the Verge (three-time World Champions, five-time National semifinalists) decided to retire, a small group of young Ultimate players decided to form a new team. In the shadows of the 1999 WTO protests they chose a new name: Seattle Riot.

After missing out on Nationals in their first season, the team not only made the US Championships in 2001, they made it all the way to the finals where they would lose to the powerhouse Lady Godiva 13-17. In 2003 they would go on to end the Godiva dynasty, defeating the nine-time champion 11-9 in the semifinals of Nationals.

In 2002 the team travelled to Honolulu, Hawaii where they won the World Ultimate Club Championships.

After a few seasons of 2nd and 3rd place finishes, Riot finally won its first National Championship in 2004. And then again in 2005.

Following the 2006 season, much of core of original Riot players retired requiring a new crop of rookies — 14 in all. Despite the upheaval the team continued to chase more championships, finishing 2nd or 3rd tweleve times between 2006 and 2018.

In the August of 2014, Riot travelled to Lecco, Italy where they won the World Ultimate Club Championships. And in July of 2018, the team won the World Ultimate Club Championships again in Cincinnati, Ohio.
