Sarah "Surge" Griffith #6
Hailing from Michigan, Surge played with Flywheel and Mojo before venturing out west to join Riot. Her tryout with Riot at Flowerbowl 2008, intended for an entire tournament, was cut one day short after the team voted her on at the end of Saturday’s games. The decision was a no-brainer given that she caught half the teams’ goals that day and got a D almost every time she stepped on the field. Since then, Surge has been a huge part of Riot, pushing fellow Riots to give their all every time they step on the field and to put the team first.
Surge is well known for her incredible speed, after winning the infamous “fastest woman” contest at college nationals, 2008. However, others may not know about how utterly determined and fiercely competitive she is. Surge rarely gives up on the disc, running it down when all hope was lost. Her well-timed hucks and reliability with the disc make her a threat underneath, even though anyone would be crazy not to back her. Surge is one of those players that believes, no matter what the score, that her team can and should win. Riot is lucky to have her back for another year as captain.
A founding member of Riot’s first ever musical trio (two trombones and a recorder), Boner Jams, Sarah “Surge” Griffith never ceases to amaze her teammates both on and off the field. She’s also been known to eat 18 feet of Fruit by the Foot in one day.
