Liz Duffy #37

After being introduced to Ultimate in her senior year at Amherst College, Liz Duffy became a Riotess in 2003 and has continued to stack her Ultimate resume year after year, winning UPA Championship gold medals with Riot in 2004 and 2005 and being one of nine women selected to the 2009 Team USA. She is one of Riot’s top threats on both offense and defense, with the speed and timing to wrack up deep Ds, run through Ds and an unimaginable number of point blocks, as well as the throwing repertoire, field vision and athleticism to be one of the team’s top scorers and assist throwers.

Duffy is incredibly multi-talented, known for a fearsome long-armed mark that often sends throws in the opposite direction—a fate referred to in the Riot world as “getting duffed”— a one-fingered flick huck, and acrobatic catches that imitate Air Jordan ads. However, her dedication to Riot extends well beyond the playing field. She leads track workouts that inspire both athletic greatness and the urge to barf, and is always willing to put in extra time talking to or working with teammates. In fact, we’re pretty sure Duffy would give you the shirt off her back if it were the only thing she had to her name. When not besieged by team duties, Doctor Duffy is either in the lab doing research or on a boat in the middle of Puget Sound teaching others about the spiny lumpsucker and other natural wonders of the aquatic world.
