Claire Suver #88
1987 was a magical year, for it produced five current Riot players, including one Claire Suver. The story of Claire Suver? Leadership. Success. Claire first discovered Ultimate during middle school in 1998. In high school she played at Nathan Hale, where she developed her skills alongside current Riot teammates Drew Johnson, Shannon O'Malley and Alyssa Weatherford, en route to two State Championships, one Western Championship, and one National Championship. In 2006, she was selected to the Juniors Team USA, so she went ahead and captained them to a gold medal at the WFDF World Junior Ultimate Championships. Even after all that, Claire wasn't quite done being increasingly more awesome, so she decided to go to the University of Washington and captain them to 3rd and 2nd place Nationals finishes in 2008 and 2009, respectively.
This season actually marks C Suve's return to Riot. She initially made the team in 2006 at just 19 years old and helped us to a silver medal at the UPA Club Championships that year. Her extensive playing and leadership experience, as well as her habit of creating success wherever she goes, are a massive boon to Riot's 2010 handling corps. Admittedly, she does sometimes worry us with her excessive sunscreen application, which she has been known to apply underneath pants...in the rain... But, fortunately for us, she's far more intimidating on the field, where she likes to shred marks with every break in the book, bomb hucks that are timed and placed almost too perfectly, and make us think twice about whether her handling skills in zone O are a good sign for our offense or a bad one for our defense...nah, definitely the former.
