Alyson Thieman #9
Alyson “Al/Big Al/Al-bot” Thieman brings incredible athleticism to Riot. With a background in cross-country, tennis, basketball and volleyball, Al switched to Ultimate in the spring of 2006, her freshman year at Pacific Lutheran University. Al’s leadership and physical dominance helped PLU to compete with the big guns in the highly competitive Northwest Region, despite being only a Division 3 school. Under the tutelage of Sockeye veteran Jaime “Idaho” Arambula, Alyson developed from a natural athlete with a slew of physical assets into a star cutter, stand-in handler, and esteemed captain of PLU Reign.
Primarily a defensive cutter for Riot, Al brings a remarkable combination of lefty breaks, height, speed, and jumping ability to the backfield. Also not afraid to hit the ground from 5’10”, she generates some of the longest layouts in the game, scooping up discs far out of reach of her opponents on both O and D. A member of the Riot weenie posse, the combination of speed and height that she brings to the field is scary now but still realizing its fullest potential. Fortunately for Riot, Al is also a highly dedicated, hard working and coachable teammate, willing to do whatever it takes to improve herself and consequently the team.
