Colorado Cup - July 30-31

This weekend Riot is one of 16 women's teams to be competing in Colorado Cup at the Pleasant View Sports Field Complex in Boulder, CO. The full schedule has been posted online, with Riot as the 3 seed overall. The top 8 teams have been placed in Division I (pools A & B) and the remaining teams round out Division II (pools C & D). Five of last year's quarterfinalists from Nationals are in Division I and the competition will be the stiffest that Riot has faced this season so far.

In addition to seeing Traffic again (3rd time and counting so far in 2011), we are excited to face Zeitgeist and Capitals in pool play. Colorado Cup is Zeitgeist's first tournament of the season, and as another team in the NW, it will be good to see what their roster looks like this season. Capitals are preparing for Canadian Nationals in mid-August and we can't wait to see them at their peak. There's the little matter of our semifinals loss last year in Sarasota to avenge...

We will be playing with a relatively small roster this weekend as our injured reserve list has grown to include Callie, Lindsey, Keely, and Gwen. KK also has to miss the tournament due to a wedding (it's her sister's, so we forgive her). With just 18 players suiting up, this will be a wonderful opportunity for the team to develop its chemistry and for players to get lots of reps. Not to mention the high altitude training!
