Nationals 2011 Recap

Before Shannon laps me with another Flatballers write-up from Riot's off-season forays into the world of basketball, I figured I should at least create a placeholder for the Nationals write-up that I am working on.  Sorry to disappoint those of you who clicked on this link ready to devour a full recap!  The tournament's scores shouldn't be news to anyone (in case you missed it, we lost 13-15 in the finals to Fury), but I will leave you with a few stats to tide you over until the full story is told...

Nationals - Oct 27-30

The schedule and seeds are up for the 2011 USA Ultimate Club Championships, to be held in Sarasota, FL October 27-30.

NW Regionals Recap

Long story short: Riot went 4-0 in pool play on Saturday to punch our ticket to Sarasota with an assured bid to the USA Ultimate Club Championships.  On Sunday we faced Fury in the finals, playing for the #1 seed at Nationals, but we were unable to overcome a 4-9 deficit and lost 13-15.  We then had to play the 2/3 placement game against Traffic where we also went down early and couldn't fight our way back out of the hole, losing 11-14.

NW Regionals! - Oct 1-2

There's something uniquely special about Northwest Regionals.  Every year is different as the location, weather, format, and bids-on-the-line change, but the energy and intensity that the tournament generates is always there each season.  I can still remember getting my first layout D at NW Regionals my rookie year in the club scene and playing in a tight game-to-go is one of the most compelling situations in the sport today for players and spectators alike. I'm so excited that it's finally here!

Riot undefeated at Virginia Fusion

Riot extended its 2011 winning streak to 21 games straight by going 6-0 at this past weekend's Virginia Fusion. It was a tournament full of building team chemistry and showcasing great play for the small, tight-knit roster that was able to make the trip out East.

Virginia Fusion - Sep 17-18

[Update: Our schedule has been re-worked a bit to accommodate our small roster size for the tournament. Riot will only play 6 games during the weekend, all games to 13. The preview below is updated accordingly. Thank you, Michelle Ng!]

Sectionals Success

Sectional champs for the 9th time in a row! All the results are posted in the Score Reporter and all 5 teams qualified for NW Regionals.

WA/BC Sectionals - Sep 10

The Club Series is finally here! This Saturday we'll be competing in the first stage of post-season play at WA/BC Sectionals in Burlington, WA. The posted schedule calls for four games on Saturday, a one-day round-robin, to determine seeding for Northwest Regionals the first weekend in October.

Riot Wins Labor Day

Stringing together back-to-back tournament victories, Riot was undefeated at the Labor Day Ultimate Championships in Santa Cruz, CA last weekend. The full tournament results are posted on the Score Reporter, but here's a recap of how the weekend went down for Riot.

Labor Day Ultimate Championships - Sep 3-4

[UPDATE: There was a change in the pools on 08/31. This preview article has been changed accordingly and reflects the final schedule].
