It is with great excitement that we announce the theme for our season’s first tournament.
After much deliberation, your 2016 interim Funta has chosen…
LITTLE RED RIOTING HOOD as our theme for Flower Bowl.
I know over the past three years, this theme concept has been very confusing for some members of the team. Allow us to explain further: Little Red Rioting Hood is a play on words with “Little Red Riding Hood”.
“Little Red Riding Hood” is a fairy tale about a little girl, clad in a red cloak, who embarks on a great journey through the woods to deliver a basket of goodies (wine, cake) to her grandmother. Along the way, she is followed by the Big Bad Wolf. At some point during Little Red’s walk to grandmas, the Big Bad Wolf secretly overtakes her, allowing him to arrive at grandmas before Little Red. When he arrives at Little Red’s grandma’s house, he eats grandma, puts her clothes on, and climbs in her bed to disguise himself.
When Little Red arrives at her the house, and goes to check on grandma, she is appalled by how horrible “grandma” looks:
“Oh, grandmother, what big ears you have!”
“All the better to hear you with,” says the Big Bid Wolf.
“Oh, grandmother, what big eyes you have!”
“All the better to see you with.”
“Oh, grandmother, what big hands you have!”
“All the better to grab you with!”
“Oh, grandmother, what a horribly big mouth you have!”
“All the better to eat you with!”
The wolf jumps up out of bed, and eat Little Red whole. He then gets back into bed, and falls deep, deep into a food coma. Mr. Wolf has sleep apnea, and his snoring is heard down the street by a friendly neighborhood woodcutter.
Alarmed by the loud snoring, the woodcutter follows the noise and decides check up on Little Red’s grandma. When the woodcutter enters the grandmother’s bedroom, he immediately recognizes the Big Bad Wolf. The woodcutter suspects that the Big Bad Wolf had eaten grandma, so instead of killing him, the woodcutter cuts him open with scissors.
Little Red and grandma emerge from the Big Bad Wolf’s stomach unscathed. All three decide they ought to punish the Big Bad Wolf for what he had done, so they collect stones from a nearby river, fill the sleeping wolf with them, and sow him up.
When the Big Bad Wolf awakens, he tries to get out of bed and run away, but is weighed down by the stones. He starts to roll uncontrollably out of the bedroom, out the door, and down the path to the river, where he is never seen again.
The grandma, woodcutter, and Little Red party it up. They eat the cake and drink the wine and celebrate the end of the Big Bad Wolf.
The idea is that our costumes will represent the story of Little Red and her journey. SO, costume options include: red hoodies, red capes, red cloaks, wolf costume, grandma costume, woodcutter costume, basket, stones, scissors, wine, cake, etc.
